Power positions: nine defender spots that win rounds
Reviewed Sep 29, 2026
A power position is a spot on defense that controls an area the attackers need, so every fight there happens on your terms. You are not there to trade your life for one kill. You are there to burn a minute or more of the clock, make attackers spend utility, and force them into gunfights you can predict. This guide covers nine of them across nine maps. The spots and operator picks come from R6Mint's video The BEST Power Position Spots UPDATED in R6.
What makes a spot a power position
Three things show up in every spot below. It covers a room or path attackers cannot skip. It has more than one angle to play from, so you can mix up where you peek. And it has a way out, a rotation or a vault, for when the pressure gets too high.
Most of the spots are played with Azami, because her Kiba barriers let you rebuild cover, close a door or block a vault every time attackers clear it. The reworked Wamai comes up almost as often: his own shield plus fast-recharging discs make him strong for solo players who cannot count on help.
Delay on the stairs
Bank, blue stairs
The spot for the basement site. Leave the wall facing the stairs soft so your team still has a plant to deny, reinforce the server hatch, and open holes from site so a teammate can help you. Barbed wire on the stairs is your early warning. Smoke is the classic pick: play near the bottom, listen for the wire, and gas the stairs to buy time. Thorn is the anti-shield alternative. Keep a trap or two in your pocket so you can replace one a drone clears, and sometimes play the top of the stairs, where attackers do not expect you. Defender setup.
Border, east stairs
Ranked players rarely push here, but stronger teams start here almost every round. The spot combines the stairs, the suicide wall and bottom luggage. Reinforce two walls and board the low barricades. Azami's barriers stop attackers vaulting in beside you. Smoke on the suicide wall wastes a minute and still lets you vault out. Sentry is the third option, with a C4 for when they open a wall. Border setups.
Aggressive holds that rebuild themselves
Chalet, mezzanine
Works for the bar, kitchen and master bedroom sites and lets you contest library, where most attacks go. Reinforce the mezzanine wall, open two rotations with impacts, and use Kiba barriers as extra cover to move in and out of them. Most of the floor is hard, which helps against Deimos underneath. Wamai is the runner-up pick, and some teams double-reinforce a wall on kitchen and master for more movement. Defender setup.
Consulate, long desk
For the top floor, and for lobby or piano when you play aggressively on the admin side. With Azami, rebuild the desk every time attackers break it, and open holes that watch the stairs and the visa door. Without her, Mute behind jammed, reinforced walls with a shotgun and a C4 plays it like a kill room. Wamai and Denari are strong alternatives. Defender setup.
Lair, operations room
This is the room attackers go for first, in ranked and in pro play. Open a rotation, reinforce around it, and use Kiba barriers to cover the window and the door so you can peek from several sides. Aim to waste a minute or more, then fall back to the chess position to deny the default plant. Without Azami, Wamai's own shield works like a makeshift Mira window. Lair setups.
Nighthaven Labs, rafters
Holding rafters helps the top floor site and storage, because it controls the paths attackers need through the building. Kiba barriers block the angles through the crates and onto the window jump, and one-way barriers punish anyone coming through the rafter door. Give the spot up late in the round and play behind the bomb. Wamai with discs and a C4 is the next pick, and wall denial is an option if Azami and Mira are banned. Defender setup.
Double-reinforce to stay longer
Club House, rafters
The newer way to hold it is to double-reinforce rafters. You lose the holes that used to help site, but you gain room to move away from Capitão bolts and grenades. Reinforce it last in prep so attackers expect the old setup. Once you die, they still need a hard breach to get in, which makes the late round easier. Wamai works here too, with a C4 you can throw out of the garage door. Club House setups.
Punish the predictable drop
Kafe Dostoyevsky, cigar shop
Ranked attackers almost always drop the red hatch, and this spot punishes it. Mute jammers outside the room block drones and keep the ticket wall shut, which funnels attackers onto you. Play close with a shotgun, or behind cover so they think you left, and have a C4 ready. Thorn, with traps under the hatches, is what pro teams run here. Defender setup.
Hold the hallway
Fortress, horse
If attackers win this position, they can walk straight onto the top floor sites, so holding it matters for both Commander's Office and Dormitory. Impact the left wall so you can fight from behind the black boxes, and with Azami block the door every time it opens. On the dormitory side, a trap operator or Clash lets you extend and waste time before falling back to bathroom. Defender setup.
Pair a spot with the setup
A power position only works when the walls around it are right: which one is reinforced, where the rotation is, which holes your team opened. Open the setup for your site and plan your spot around it. Bank's basement setup is a good place to start.
